Q.
What is the difference between a Project Manager and
Superintendent? Why are both needed on a project and
how do their job responsibilities differ?
A. Devcon Construction
assigns a Project Manager and Superintendent to each
project. The primary responsibilities for each position
include the following:
Project Manager/ Estimator:
The Project Manager's function
is to oversee and facilitate all aspects of estimating,
scheduling, procurement and construction. All estimating,
scheduling and purchasing is performed by the Project
Manager, so you are dealing with someone who has first
hand knowledge of the preparation of these items. His/her
involvement in the process starts with pre-construction
and continues through job close-out and warranty management.
The Project Manager has the ability to commit the firm
contractually. Devcon empowers its Project Managers
to have total control over each project. Our Principal,
Gary Filizetti can be as involved as requested, or as
required, to facilitate each project.
Superintendent:
The Superintendent is the
direct contact between the Project Manager and the mechanics
and craftspersons performing the individual tasks. His/her
job is to implement the plans, budget, schedule and
monitor the progress on a daily basis as well as assist
with updates on critical path schedules and deliveries.
The Superintendent and Project Manager work together
as a team to ensure that each project is delivered on-time
and within budget.
