DEVCON COMPLETES NEW HOME
FOR SAP LABS, INC. ON PALO ALTO'S COYOTE HILL
PALO ALTO -- Thanks to Devcon Construction,
software developer SAP Labs, Inc. has a new 74,200 square foot
research and development facility nestled into Coyote Hill among
the area's wolf-like inhabitants. The new site marks an expansion
on the part of SAP Labs which is expanding from its nearby Deer
Creek complex.
Construction began on the three-story
facility in May 2000 with SAP Labs taking up residence in July 2000.
Devcon Project Manager Bob Knott describes the project as unique.
"Everything from the building's shape to its color was designed
so it would blend seamlessly into the hillside," he said. "And,
of course, it was an intersting experience working at a location
where coyotes, bobcats and deer are the neighbors on the jobsite!"
Because of its location in a rustic setting, the building features
extensive landscaping, all of it fire- and drought-resistant.
ER+HDR Architecture, Inc. served as
the architect for the structure's shell.
Milpitas-based Devcon is the largest
general building contractor based in Silicon Valley, and it maintains
a regional office in Santa Cruz to manage projects along the coast.
With building experience throughout Northern California, Devcon
has constructed industrial parks, commercial centers and landmark
office buildings, in all totaling some 35 million square feet of
shells and interiors.
