FAIRMONT HOTEL CALLS UPON
DEVCON FOR CONSTRUCTION OF ITS NEW 14-STORY
LUXURY TOWER
SAN JOSE -- Maritz Wolff and Company has
called upon Devcon Construction to build a new 253,000-square foot,
14-story tower hotel and conference center expansion to the existing
Fairmont Hotel. Devcon began site work in March 2000 and is aiming
to have the new tower ready for occupancy by February 2002.
When completed, an additional 264 rooms on 11 floors will be added
to the existing hotel including 33 suites. The 14-story, poured-in-place
concrete structure will contain retail shops on its ground floor
and a conference/meeting facility on its second floor. A 60-foot
bridge will connect the new tower to the original hotel at the meeting
level.
The architects, Gensler Associates and Moore, Ruble, Yudell of
Santa Monica have worked together to provide a contemporary complement
to the traditional style of the original Fairmont Hotel. Wilson
Associates of Beverly Hills is providing the interior design services.
Milpitas-based Devcon is the largest
general building contractor based in Silicon Valley, and it maintains
a regional office in Santa Cruz to manage projects along the coast.
With building experience throughout Northern California, Devcon
has constructed industrial parks, commercial centers and landmark
office buildings, in all totaling some 35 million square feet of
shells and interiors.
