DEVCON INSTALLS NEW ROOF ON SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY'S
LEAVEY EVENTS CENTER
HOME TO SCU BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL
& COMMENCEMENT
SANTA CLARA, CA -- Devcon Construction
has finished raising the new roof on Santa Clara University's famed
Leavey Events Center, home to SCU basketball and volleyball, as
well as numerous other athletic and social events. The new 70,000-square
foot roof system replaces the landmark air-supported, bubble-topped
dome that had covered the Center since its opening in the mid-1970's.
Leavey Events Center now boasts a new
video scoreboard over the middle of the new court, as well as an
all-glass facade and a completely new lighting system. "No
equipment other than roof drains are on top of the new flat roof,"
said Devcon's Senior Project Manager Andy Schatzman. "Additional
construction items include a new elevator, HVAC system, electrical
rooms, new lower-level bleachers, and an expansion of both the women's
and men's restrooms."
The new structure was designed by EHDD
Architecture while the video scoreboard, bleachers and new wood
floor were designed by Ellerbe-Becket.
Milpitas-based Devcon is the largest
general building contractor based in Silicon Valley, and it maintains
a regional office in Santa Cruz to manage projects along the coast.
With building experience throughout Northern California, Devcon
has constructed industrial parks, commercial centers and landmark
office buildings, in all totaling some 35 million square feet of
shells and interiors.
