    The McHenry Library Addition project expands and upgrades the McHenry Library located on the University of Santa Cruz campus. Project consists of a new 118,891 SF 5-story poured in place concrete addition to the existing 162,364 SF McHenry Library Building. Scope for this addition includes a complete interior build-out for immediate use upon completion. Additionally, due to the nature of this project, the work also includes modification to the existing foundations on the south and west sides of the existing Library building, modification to existing mechanical rooms in the library, and various site improvements.   • UCSC Biomedical Sciences

    This project consists of a 94,700 SF 4-story steel building with one story below grade. Exterior finishes consist of plaster, glass curtain wall, and metal panel while site improvements include sewer, storm water retention, tie-in to campus utilities for mechanical cooling, site concrete, AC paving and pervious paving. Interior improvements feature a basement vivarium, four stories of research lab space, office and meeting space, and the use of active chilled beams for heating and cooling. Pre-construction responsibilities include constructability review of design documents, multiple budget iterations validating the University’s ongoing budget, value engineering, development of subcontractor prequalification and bid documents, and management of the prequalification and bid phases. Construction phase responsibilities consist of 3D BIM coordination, compliance with targeted LEED points to achieve Gold Certification, and management of all construction activities. In addition, the project also features replacement of refrigeration equipment and remodel of the Pro Shop and Snack Bar. Floors 2 through 4 include open office space, conference rooms, library, coffee bar, IT help desk, and executive conference rooms that are surrounded by wood feature walls, team areas with wood ceilings and custom baffles at the corridors.     Construction and architectural services were provided for these new design build office buildings which consist of two 170,000 SF, 5-story office buildings on a 17 acre site. The buildings are steel structures with curtain wall and GFRC exterior systems which feature a complex site development and extensive landscaping. All major building systems (Arch, Struct, Mech, Elect, Plumbing, Fire Sprinkler, Skin systems) were modeled in 3D and clash detection software was utilized to identify and resolve conflicts. The buildings feature sloping green roofs that provide walking access and exterior site amenities at each floor. A new four level pre-cast concrete parking structure at the northwest corner of the site provides 1,440 stalls, and extensive landscaping with enhanced flood protection levees and pedestrian bridges activates the balance of the site. Interior improvements include open office space, conference rooms, food service, and fitness areas.     1,300,000 SF project consisting of an 18-story CIP concrete tower featuring a 12-story office building, 2-story below grade parking, 6-levels above grade parking, sitework and tenant improvements. The project consists of a pedestrian bridge approximately 6,000 SF over West San Fernando, connecting the new structure to the existing campus. The garage and office façade are comprised of metal panel, curtain wall and structural glazing. The interior features a multi-story all hands assembly space, customer experience center, full electric café, and flexible workspace on the work floors. The all hands area seats 300 people with custom AV wall, theatrical lighting and features 2-story vertical decorative fins for acoustics. 60,000 SF of space is dedicated to café area which includes of a coffee bar, sushi bar, diner, south Indian bar, east Indian bar, Italian station and other multiple stations; there is also a coworking bar that provides a specialty beverage station for employees to gather. The 18th executive floor features secure spaces for executives’ safety and a customer experience center with food service, dining and special AV graphics display areas; there is also custom lighting and artwork integrated in this space. All office floors have one breakroom with wood cladded interconnecting stairs and multiple appliances to service the entire floor. Each office floor also consists of specialty spaces for employee interaction game rooms, selfie rooms, meditation, and other functions. All conference rooms feature extensive audio visual capabilities throughout. The first level includes a main lobby, Adobe experience center (museum), juice bar and a full production kitchen. A custom DXD display in the main lobby of Level 7 & Level 8, as well as the executive center on the 18th floor, provides tailored graphics. The project will receive a LEED GOLD rating.     Devcon provided design and construction services for a new 3,600 SF science classroom building for education and demonstration of sustainable practices. The building and its related site work is phase 1 of the 5 phased master plans. The building will be both the new gateway to the campus and a teaching tool utilizing sustainable materials and means of construction while demonstrating their functions within the building. The design features include 12 foot wide by 10 foot high operable window walls, clerestory windows, skylights, stone veneer and board and batten siding. The roof accommodates photo voltaic solar cells for electrical power generation and vacuum tube solar hot water heating capabilities that also assist the radiant floor heating and cooling system.
