Previous Andy Bloom Vice President of Construction The construction industry has always been part of Andy Bloom’s DNA being raised around his family’s general contracting company in California’s Central Valley. Growing up, Andy’s summers were spent working as a laborer on concrete tilt-ups before attending Santa Clara University and earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. While at Santa Clara University, he was hired at Devcon Construction as a Project Engineer intern in 2004 and has been with the company since. “As long as I can remember, I knew I was going to be a general contractor; however, it has exceeded all expectations being part of such highly regarded and successful company,” Bloom states. In his role as Vice President of Construction, Bloom’s responsibilities include serving as Devcon’s contact for clients while providing pre-construction, estimating, design management, and scheduling services. During the construction phase, he ensures these services translate to maximum project efficiency and project cost controls. During his time at Devcon, Bloom has been involved with several high-profile clients in a variety of industries – tech companies, professional sports teams, higher education institutions, and venture capitalists. The data center houses 96 server racks and associated network racks for critical systems. The communications hub houses 32 network racks and additional fiber distribution frames, and is part of a campus wide network of redundant hubs which are designed to remain functional after a major earthquake or similar event. The call center is a back-up facility to be used in the event the main call center is rendered inoperable. The Leavey School of Business was designed by Devcon Architecture and built by Devcon Construction. The construction team collaborated with the design team which included design build MEPs to develop the design of the structure. The construction team was active in reviewing and commenting on details to ensure that all details were coordinated and constructible. At key milestones of document development (including 100% design drawings, 50% construction drawings and 100% construction drawings) the construction team prepared budgets to ensure that the design was within the budget constraints established by our client. Value engineering was regularly introduced to maintain control of costs and provide the client with high quality construction at the most reasonable cost. Prior to bidding the project Devcon Construction developed bid documents to thoroughly identify the required scopes of work for all trades. These scope statements were then packaged with the construction documents (including plans, specifications, soils reports) were then issued to 3 bidders for each scope of work. Each of the firms allowed to bid the project previously successfully completed projects of similar size and complexity with Devcon Construction. These firm have demonstrated high quality workmanship and sound financial condition.
