This project consists of the construction of a 284 unit apartment complex (approximately 270,000 SF) on top of an existing 3-story concrete structure located in Emeryville. Project features exterior courtyards with landscaping and a swimming pool. The existing concrete structure has two levels of parking with retail shops at the ground level. Construction of the apartments did not disrupt the retail businesses because scaffolding will be held off the ground. A very challenging project to expand an existing operational data center and related support systems. The enlarged facility provided for approx 150 server cabinets with a power density of 8kW/ea. N+1 redundancy was provided using the Liebert XD HVAC system, with multiple static UPS and parallel distribution. Improvements also included VESDA and pre-action fire protection. Construction constraints included very limited floor-floor heights, completion of the electrical tie-ins into live services, and full commissioning under simulated load during off-hours.
